Seachem Pond Matrix 4L

Seachem Pond Matrix is a premium biological filtration media designed specifically for ponds, delivering exceptional filtration by supporting the growth of beneficial bacteria. Its highly porous structure offers an enormous surface area, allowing both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria to thrive. This enables the media to effectively break down ammonia and nitrite while also helping to reduce nitrate levels within the same filter.

Unlike standard plastic biomedia that only provide external surface area, Pond Matrix features an internal network of large pores where beneficial bacteria can colonise. The media is completely inert, meaning it will not degrade over time, alter water chemistry, or require routine replacement.

Pond Matrix can also be used as a clean alternative to soil for aquatic plants, providing excellent root support without introducing dirt into your pond.

Directions for Use

For Pond Filtration

• Use approximately 2 litres for every 200 US gallons (around 760 litres) of pond water.

• Place directly into your pond filter following the filter manufacturer's recommendations.

• Due to the large particle size, a media bag is generally unnecessary.

• If cleaning is required, simply rinse with pond water. Because the majority of beneficial bacteria live within the internal pores, normal rinsing will not significantly impact biological filtration.

For Aquatic Plants

• Pond Matrix can be placed directly into planting pots or on the pond floor as a soil substitute.

• It may be used on its own or combined with decorative river stones.

• Before use on the pond bottom, soak the media for several days until it becomes fully waterlogged and sinks naturally.

As an inorganic media, Pond Matrix will not decompose, compact, or release contaminants into the water, providing reliable biological filtration for years to come.
